Petitgrain bigarade essential oil, which is obtained not from fruits, but from orange shoots and leaves, is rightfully considered to be citrus — it is both in flavor and role in perfume compositions in many respects.

The aroma of Petitgrain essential oil is strong, with a citrus-flower base and woody overtones, bright and harmonious; at the beginning, fresh fruit-candy notes with green nuances are captured, and then a transparent base with woody and herbal tints appears, which is supported by typical citrus “bottoms”.

Petitgrain oil is so special, its aroma has such subtle shades that it is not recommended to combine it with citrus oils, which will muffle its overtone.

The combined aromas, in particular, are characteristic of Lavender, Clove, Pine, Niaouli, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Clary sage, Black pepper, Palmarosa and Basil.
